One of the questions that I frequently hear is, “how do you keep writing? Or how do you do it?” I find myself answering with, “God gave me this passion and so I want to use it for Him.” Now as great as that sounds, it is way easier said than done.
Although I can write a poem or a short story in a few minutes, writing in itself is not easy. There’s a lot of effort, heart, and thought that has to be put into every written work. Other authors may find it easier to write books in different genres because it’s what the world asks for, but writing for God is a different challenge. When I write for God, discouragement and tests are sure to be present.
Sometimes I wonder why other authors, who write things that don’t please God or are opposite to His Word, grow in audience and get a lot of support while we who write for God seem to go unnoticed. But that’s when my purpose and foundation is exposed. When hard times come and doubt tries to fill your mind, what or who will you turn to? To God who gave you your life, passions, and gifts, or to the world who promises temporary pleasure, fame, and riches?
I write because I’ve seen people in different generations longing for something that only Jesus can fill. I write because I, too, have limitations, questions, experiences, and desires that need to be laid down at the feet of Jesus.
I write because many people don’t know Jesus, don’t realize that a relationship with Him is free, don’t understand that He loves them, don’t know their purpose, or are unsure of their identity.
I write because God puts words on my heart to share with others.
